Bathroom Privacy Film: Switchable Smart Film for Bathroom Glass
Daylight and privacy from the same glass, for suitable bathroom windows and interior glass.
Bathroom privacy film usually means a permanent frosted sheet: privacy secured, view and much of the daylight gone for good. Switchable bathroom smart film takes a different approach. The glass stays clear when the room is empty and turns frosted when someone is using it. Aura Smart Film supplies the switchable film and installs it on suitable existing bathroom glass in homes throughout Los Angeles.
Bathrooms are also the one room where suitability has to be taken seriously. Moisture, steam, the way the glass edges are finished and whether there is a practical route to power all decide whether smart film will perform well. Aura evaluates every bathroom window, door and interior panel before recommending anything, and we say plainly when a piece of glass is not a good candidate.

What switchable bathroom glass film is
Smart film is a thin switchable PDLC layer applied to the surface of existing glass and connected to a control. Clear, it is transparent and the window works as a window. Switched, it appears frosted and obscures the view. It is installed on the glass already in place, so the window, frame and trim stay as they are.
Unlike a static frosted film or etched glass, the privacy is not permanent. You get privacy without blinds, and you keep the option of an open, bright bathroom whenever privacy is not needed. The technology is explained in our guide to how smart film works.
Problems it solves in a bathroom
The bathroom is where the compromise between light and privacy is most obvious.
- Bathroom windows that face a neighbor, a side yard or a street and stay covered all day
- Blinds and shades that warp, mildew and collect moisture in a humid room
- Interior glass between a bathroom and a bedroom that looks open and elegant but leaves no privacy
- Primary bathrooms with large windows chosen for the view and never enjoyed because of the exposure
- Powder rooms and guest bathrooms where visitors should feel private without the room feeling closed in
Common bathroom applications
Bathroom windows
Bathroom window privacy film on suitable windows is the most straightforward application. Keep the daylight and the outlook, and switch to frosted when the room is in use.
Interior glass between bathroom and bedroom
Glass walls and doors that open a bathroom to a bedroom can stay clear for light and switch to private on demand.
Shower and wet-area glass
Switchable shower glass film is requested often and must be evaluated carefully. Direct water contact, steam, edge exposure and access to power rule out many shower enclosures. We assess each one and only proceed when the glass and its location are suitable.
Bathroom glass doors
Glass doors into a bathroom from a hallway or bedroom, where the door should read as open until someone needs it private.
Powder rooms and guest bathrooms
Smaller windows and sidelights where privacy without blinds keeps the room clean and simple.

Who bathroom smart film is right for
It fits homeowners who want daylight in the bathroom, have already tried or rejected blinds, and do not want to give up the glass to permanent frosting. It is a strong option for bathroom windows and for interior glass between bathrooms and bedrooms. The rest of the home is covered on our residential smart film page.
It is not right for every bathroom pane. Glass that is regularly wet, enclosures where the edges are exposed to water, damaged or poorly sealed glass, and locations without a practical route to power may not be suitable. We would rather say so before any film is prepared.
How Aura evaluates bathroom glass
Bathroom evaluation is more thorough than for other rooms. We look at the type and condition of the glass, its exact dimensions, how the edges are finished and protected, where the pane sits relative to the shower, tub and vanity, how much moisture and steam reach it, how the room is ventilated, and where power and a control can be placed appropriately.
Photos of the glass and the room are enough to begin. We then confirm dimensions and conditions on site and tell you which panels are suitable. If a shower enclosure is not a candidate, we will say so and point to other bathroom glass that could give you the privacy you are after. Read more about smart film on existing glass.

Control options for bathrooms
A wall switch near the bathroom entrance or vanity is the most common arrangement. A remote is an alternative where a switch location does not work. An app is also available for remote use. The placement of any control in a bathroom is part of the evaluation, since the location has to suit the room and the moisture in it. Aura confirms the configuration during project review.
Why switchable film instead of frosted glass or blinds
Permanent frosting works, but you lose the view, and a bathroom that could be bright and open stays flat. Blinds and shades are the wrong material for a humid room and never quite close. Replacing the window with a switchable glass unit is a far larger project than most bathrooms justify. Switchable bathroom glass gives you both states from the same pane and keeps the room as it was designed. For the comparison in detail, see smart film vs smart glass.

FAQ
Common Questions
Can smart film go on shower glass?
Sometimes, but not in every case. Shower enclosures see direct water contact, steam and edge exposure that rule out many installations. Aura evaluates the enclosure, its edges, its location and access to power before recommending it. Bathroom windows and interior glass between a bathroom and a bedroom are more often suitable.
Does steam and moisture affect whether smart film is suitable?
Moisture exposure is one of the main factors we assess. Glass that is well away from direct water and steam, with protected edges, is a better candidate than glass inside a wet area. The evaluation is specific to each pane.
Do I lose daylight when the film is frosted?
The frosted state obscures the view rather than blacking out the window, so the bathroom keeps its natural light while private. Clear, the window is transparent as before.
Can I keep the bathroom window clear most of the time?
Yes. Which state the glass is in is up to you. Many homeowners leave a bathroom window clear for light and outlook and switch it to private only while the room is in use.
How is the film controlled in a bathroom?
Options include a wall switch, a remote, and an app for remote use. Where the control goes is decided during evaluation so the placement suits the room and its moisture. Aura confirms the configuration during project review.
What does bathroom privacy film cost?
Pricing depends on the size and number of panels, glass and edge conditions, how close the glass is to water, access, electrical requirements and the control setup. Aura provides a project-specific estimate after reviewing the glass. Estimates are free.
