Smart Film for Glass Partitions & Glass Walls
Frosted-on-demand privacy for the glass partitions and walls already in your space.
A glass partition gives a space light, sightlines and the sense that rooms are connected. It also gives everyone a view of everything. Smart film for a glass partition keeps the openness as the default and adds a private state you can switch on when a room needs it. Aura Smart Film supplies the switchable film and installs it on suitable existing partitions and glass walls in offices, commercial spaces and homes throughout Los Angeles.
The partition itself is not replaced. The film is applied to the existing panels and connected to a control, so a wall that has always been clear becomes a frosted-on-demand partition with the framing, doors and hardware untouched.

What glass partition smart film is
Smart film is a switchable PDLC layer applied to the surface of existing glass. Connected to its control, it changes between a transparent state and a frosted state that obscures the view. On a partition, that means the same panel can divide a room visually when needed and disappear into the space when it is not.
Glass partition privacy film from Aura is supplied and installed as one system: measurement, film prepared to the approved dimensions, installation, control setup and testing. We evaluate every panel first, because partitions come in many constructions and not all of them are suitable. The technology is explained in our guide to how smart film works.
Problems partition smart film solves
Glass partitions are chosen for openness and then, often within months, get covered with frosted vinyl, blinds or furniture to get some privacy back.
- Meeting rooms and private offices behind glass where conversations are visible to the floor
- Glass walls between departments where confidential work is readable from the corridor
- Interior glass in homes, between a study and a living area or a bedroom and a bathroom, that needs to close visually at times
- Static frosted bands and vinyl that block sightlines permanently and look dated
- Blinds that clash with a frameless glass wall and never sit properly
- Spaces that need to change function: open for a workshop in the morning, private for interviews in the afternoon

Who partition smart film is right for
Switchable partition film suits anyone who has invested in glass walls and wants to keep them exactly as they are, while solving the privacy problem they create. It is a practical route for tenants, since the partition is not replaced, and for designers and facilities teams who want a privacy solution that does not compete with the architecture. Meeting rooms specifically are covered on our office and conference room smart film page.
Not every partition is a candidate. The construction of the system, the condition of the glass, the way edges are finished and how the film can reach power all matter. Frameless and butt-glazed walls, sliding partitions and glass doors each need to be assessed on their own terms.
How Aura evaluates partitions and glass walls
We look at the partition as a system, not just as glass: framed or frameless construction, the type and condition of each panel, exact dimensions, edge finishing and the joints between panels, doors and sidelights within the wall, where the wall sits in the space, and where power and a control can be placed. Moving panels and doors are considered separately from fixed glass.
Photos of the partition from both sides and a rough panel count are enough to begin. We confirm dimensions on site, identify any panels that are not suitable and agree on the control layout before the film is prepared. Our guide to smart film on existing glass explains the criteria.
Installation process for glass partitions
1. Send us the partition
Share the rooms, the number of panels, approximate sizes, and whether the wall includes doors or sliding panels. Photos help.
2. Measure and evaluate
We confirm dimensions, glass condition, edge and joint details, power access and the control layout.
3. Film prepared to each panel
The smart film is prepared to the approved dimensions for every panel confirmed as suitable.
4. Installation, control setup and test
We install the film across the wall, connect and configure the control and test the partition with you.

Control options for partitions
A partition can switch as one wall or in sections, depending on how the space is used and how the panels are configured. A wall switch by the door is the simplest arrangement for a single room. A remote suits rooms where switch placement is awkward. An app is also available for remote use, which works well when several partitions are managed from one place. Aura confirms the control configuration during project review.
Why smart film for glass partitions
Frosted vinyl fixes the wall in one state. Blinds and curtains hide the wall. Replacing the panels with switchable glass units means dismantling a partition system that is already installed and working. Smart film on the existing partition keeps everything in place and gives the wall a clear state and a private state. If you are weighing the options, our guide to smart film vs smart glass sets them side by side.

FAQ
Common Questions
Can smart film be installed on a frameless glass partition?
Often, subject to evaluation. Frameless and butt-glazed walls have different edge and joint conditions from framed partitions, and the route to power is different. We assess each panel and confirm which are suitable. We do not replace or install partitions or glass.
Can one section of a glass wall switch on its own?
Depending on the panel configuration and the control setup, a wall can be switched as a whole or in sections. We plan the control layout during project review to match how the rooms are used.
Does the film work on sliding glass partitions and doors?
It can, depending on the system. Moving panels and doors are evaluated separately from fixed glass because their edges, hardware and connection to power are different. The partition continues to operate normally once the film is installed on suitable panels.
Will the partition look different when the film is clear?
In the clear state the film is transparent, so the wall keeps its open look. In the frosted state it obscures the view.
Is partition smart film an option in a leased office?
Because the film goes onto the existing partition rather than replacing it, it is frequently a practical option for tenants. Confirm any requirements with your building or landlord; Aura evaluates the glass itself and handles the installation.
What affects the cost of smart film on a glass partition?
The number and size of panels, the construction of the partition, glass and edge conditions, site access, electrical requirements and the control setup. Aura provides a project-specific estimate after reviewing the partition. Estimates are free.
