Storefront & Retail Smart Film in Los Angeles
Shop-front glass that stays open for business and goes private after hours, without shutters or permanent frosting.
Storefront privacy film has usually meant a choice: keep the glass open and accept that everything inside is visible around the clock, or frost it and lose the display. Storefront smart film removes that choice. The glass is clear when the store is open and switches to frosted when it is closed, when a fitting or consultation is in progress, or when a display is being changed. Aura Smart Film supplies the switchable film and installs it on suitable existing storefront glass across Los Angeles.
It works for retail, and it works for the many commercial spaces with street-facing glass: showrooms, salons, medical and dental offices, studios, galleries and professional suites where the people inside deserve some privacy and the exterior still needs to look modern and inviting.

What storefront smart film is
Smart film is a switchable PDLC layer applied to the surface of existing glass and connected to a control. Clear, the window is a window and the display does its job. Switched, the glass turns frosted and obscures the interior. It is installed on the glass already in the frame, so there is no replacement of the storefront system, no new glazing and no changes to the entrance.
Aura handles the film, the installation, the control setup and the test as one project, and evaluates each pane first, since large storefront panels, door glass and transoms all present different conditions. The technology itself is explained in how smart film works.
Problems it solves for retail and commercial glass
Street-facing glass creates the same set of issues across almost every kind of business.
- Merchandise, equipment and the interior on display all night after closing
- Fitting areas, consultation rooms and treatment spaces visible from the sidewalk
- Display changes and restocking done in full view of passers-by
- Roll-down shutters and blackout blinds that make a business look closed for good
- Permanent frosting that hides the very display the storefront exists to show
- Glass-fronted offices and studios where staff and clients feel watched from the street
Common storefront and commercial applications
Retail storefront windows
Switchable retail window film keeps the display open during trading hours and gives after-hours storefront privacy at closing.
Glass entry doors and transoms
Suitable door glass and the panels around it can switch together with the main windows or be controlled separately.
Showrooms and galleries
Switch to frosted while installing a new display or exhibition and reveal it when it is ready.
Salons, spas and medical offices
Retail privacy film for spaces where clients are visible from the street during treatments or consultations.
Studios and professional suites
Street-level offices, design studios and agencies that want a modern glass front without a fishbowl feeling for the people working inside.
Reception and interior glass
Glass between front of house and back of house, where commercial privacy smart film keeps the working area out of view.

Who storefront smart film is right for
It suits businesses that rely on their glass front and want to keep it, but need privacy at specific times: after hours, during private appointments, during changes to the display. It is a practical option for tenants, because the existing glass stays in place. Interior glass walls behind the storefront are covered on our glass partition smart film page.
Storefront glass is not automatically suitable. Large panels, weathered edges, damaged glass, exterior exposure and the route to power all matter, and some panes will not qualify. Aura evaluates the glass first and tells you which panels are candidates.
How Aura evaluates storefront glass
Storefront glass tends to be larger, more exposed and more varied than interior glass. We assess the glass type and its condition, the exact dimensions of each panel, how the edges are set and protected in the frame, the orientation and exposure of the elevation, moisture and weather exposure, and where power and a control can be placed. Door glass and transoms are evaluated separately from fixed panels.
Photos of the storefront from outside and inside, plus rough panel sizes, are enough to start. We confirm everything on site before the film is prepared. Our guide to smart film on existing glass explains what we look for.
Installation process for storefronts
1. Send us the storefront
Tell us the business, the number of panels, approximate sizes and when you need the glass private. Photos from the street and inside help.
2. Measure and evaluate
We confirm dimensions, glass condition, edge details, exposure, power access and the control layout.
3. Film prepared to the approved panels
The smart film is prepared to the approved dimensions for each panel confirmed as suitable.
4. Installation, control setup and test
We install the film, connect and configure the control and test the storefront with you, with the work planned around your trading hours where possible.

Control options for storefronts
Most businesses want the storefront to switch as a routine: clear at opening, frosted at closing. A wall switch near the entrance or the register is the simplest arrangement. A remote works for spaces where a switch is not practical. An app is also available for remote use, which suits owners who want to set the glass private after leaving or manage more than one location from a phone. Aura confirms the control configuration during project review.
Why smart film for retail and commercial glass
Shutters and blackout blinds secure privacy at the cost of a storefront that looks abandoned after dark. Permanent frosting protects privacy but kills the display. Replacing the glass with switchable glass units means a new storefront system, which is rarely realistic in a leased space. Commercial privacy smart film gives the same glass both states, keeps the exterior modern and leaves the storefront system untouched. See smart film vs smart glass for the comparison.

FAQ
Common Questions
Can smart film be installed on existing storefront windows?
Yes, on suitable glass. Aura installs switchable film on existing storefront panels, door glass and transoms. Each panel is evaluated for glass type, condition, edges, exposure and access to power before we confirm it. We do not replace or install glass or storefront systems.
Can the storefront be set to private when we close?
That is the most common way storefront smart film is used. Control options include a wall switch, a remote and an app for remote use. The exact configuration, including how the glass is switched at closing, is confirmed during project review.
Does the display still show when the film is clear?
Yes. In the clear state the film is transparent and the window works as a display window. In the frosted state it obscures the interior from the street.
Is storefront smart film suitable for a leased space?
Because the film is applied to the existing glass rather than replacing it, it is frequently a practical option for tenants. Confirm any requirements with your landlord or building; Aura evaluates the glass itself and handles the installation.
Do you install on glass doors as well as windows?
Suitable glass entry doors and the transoms and sidelights around them can take smart film. Doors are evaluated separately from fixed panels because the edges, hardware and route to power are different.
What affects the cost of storefront smart film?
The number and size of panels, glass and edge conditions, exposure, site access, electrical requirements and the control setup. Aura provides a project-specific estimate after reviewing the storefront. Estimates are free.
